Imphal, November 27:
The proposed silent rally of the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO today to protest against the Govt's failure to give their demands was foiled following the Government's promulgation of prohibition orders under section 144 CrPC in the city since yesterday.
The JAC however held a meeting at THAU ground from where the rally was planned and submitted an ultimatum to the Governor.
It pressed for giving their demands immediately failing which they will resort to relay hunger strike and mass rallies.
Hundreds of employees carrying placards and festoons reached THAU ground at around 9 am to attend the rally.
Police tried to resist them from entering the ground.
However, JAC representatives met Imphal West DC and secured permission to hold a meeting instead of the rally.
JAC president RK Madhurryajit presided the meeting which began at 12.30 noon.
Speakers in the meeting echoed opposition to the Government's claim that the present financial condition of the State is due to the implementation of the 5th Pay Commission Recommendations.
The meeting decided to continue and intensify the strike until the demands are met and to resort to relay hunger strike from tomorrow.
A delegation of the JAC led by its vice president S Noren submitted an ultimatum containing the employees' 16 demands to the Governor.
However, the ultimatum was received by the Governor's Secretary as he was not present.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Secretariat Services' Association (MSSA) whose strike has entered the 37th day today stated that it will send a delegation to meet the President of India, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and Union Finance Minister as the State Government has not been able to solve the impasse at the earliest.
